Vaulting - Gymnastics on Horseback

Equestrian Vaulting

Through Vaulting
  • You can develop rhythm, co-ordination and flexibility
  • Improve your balance, strength,  poise and grace
  • You can enjoy the fun of working in a team and gain communication skills
  • Grow in confidence and self-esteem
  • Compete-as it is a growing sport there are great opportunities to compete at national or international level and there are more opportunities to compete and be successful at a higher level than in other sports.
Sessions
The sessions are 1 -1 1/2 hours long and involve a warm up, work on the barrel to practise and perfect movements and position and work on the moving horse.

Costs
Vaulting costs £60 for a 4-week course or £16.50 per session.

What to wear
T-shirt, leggings, jodhpurs, sweatshirt (no hoodies) and tight fitting jackets are fine. Plimsoles or gymnastic shoes are the best footwear, trainers are not ideal, but are acceptable to start with. Boots or wellies are not suitable, as they are too hard on the horses back. Hats are worn, until your coach advises otherwise, long hair needs to be tied back and ideally put up in a bun. Keep a look out for Lads Lodge Vaulting Group Clothing, which will be available soon.

Benefits
Participants will not only learn how to vault, but also about the care of the horse and equipment. They can work towards their BEV (British Equestrian Vaulting) badges.

The Vaulting horse
The vaulting horse is the most important member of the team. It must have a very special temperment, comfortable paces and requires a lot of training. The Vaulters share the responsibility for the vaulting horse and the equipment. The value and respect for the horse is very much instilled in the Vaulters throughout their training.
